Outline

This course will introduce and develop skills in garment construction including pattern cutting, lay planning, machine and finishing skills. You may also get the chance to develop parallel skills in fabric printing and embroidery.

Progression

You could progress to our level 2 certificate in Fashion and Textiles, a slightly more intensive and advanced course aimed at developing your fashion and textiles skills further. You may decide to use your new skills to find work in the fashion and textiles sector working as a sample machinist for example or even to start your own business in areas such as alterations, wedding dresses, bespoke manufacture or tailoring. Further study in this area will open more doors and further possibilities in this diverse sector.

Assessment

The course is entirely practical, and you will be assessed through the completion of a series of garment and pattern cutting construction tasks set by an experienced tutor. The work is entirely manageable and you will receive clear step by step support in developing a portfolio of practical work that will showcase your newly developed fashion and textiles skills.

Entry Requirements

It is not necessary for you to have any previous qualifications for this part-time fashion and textiles course. However it is useful to have some level of general practical skill and above all else, you will need to be keen to try new things, and to learn about the creative possibilities within pattern cutting and making garments that can actually be worn.
